About Kata
"Special mother-of-pearl shells, special dyes, self-developed technology, tradicional motifs and inspiration from the nature of Zselic - these are the ingredients of Balázs Kata Jewelry. Plus dedication to creative work, lots of humility and a mission: jewellery from soul to soul."
Kata Balázs - The woman behind the jewellery
As a small child, Kata recognized that she was born to create. Life wanted to be sure, so they gave him a helper in the person of his maternal grandfather. She received tools for the first time, recognition, encouragement and patience from him. Their joint efforts soon bore fruit. Kata made her first jewelry to order at her age of 12, not even to anyone. A shop selling clothes made by artisans became her regular ordering customer because the owner believed that Kata’s jewelry was a worthy accessory to the clothes they sold.
The fate of the young artist was already sealed by this time. However, Life wanted Kata to be sure of herself. Thus, there was a brief detour into the world of finance that made a deep enough impression on Kata to make a definitive decision: she would dedicate her life to jewelry making. First she had to find the perfect raw material for herself, the shell. Then she experimented for a full year with the development of the currently patented painting technology, which makes Kata Balázs' jewelry unique and unmistakable.
The rest is history. At the age of 22, she went public with her nature-inspired, custom-designed, hand-painted mother-of-pearl jewelry specialties. In the following years, she became a regular guest at Hungary's top craft fairs. Success was almost immediate and explosive: customers not only loved her jewelry, a lot of them became fans. This suggests that when someone buys one of Kata’s jewelry, it’s not just about simply owning a bauble, it’s much more than that. Fans believe that there is some kind of relationship between the jewelry and the wearer that is difficult to express in words, but much more perceptible.
All of this would be reason enough to sit back. But Kata is not that type. She regularly judges her work to get professional feedback about them and constantly works to improve the technology, always looking for even better raw materials. In 2019, she decided it’s time to level up and make available to the whole world the jewelry that Hungarian women have been passionate about for more than two decades.
